Putting People Over Profits

About Me

I’m Cory Ferriby, a proud democratic socialist with rural roots, and I’m running for Lenox Township Trustee because I believe local government should work for everyone—openly, honestly, and effectively. As a democratic socialist, I believe in putting working families, community control, and public goods ahead of private profit. My family and I have called New Haven home for the past six years, and we truly love this community.

I grew up in Lexington, Michigan. Whether I was swimming in Lake Huron, riding horses through fields and woods, participating in 4-H and Boy Scouts, or biking along M-25, Michigan’s natural beauty was my constant backdrop. That taught me something simple: you take care of the land, and the land takes care of you. I’ll be a strong voice for conservation and common-sense stewardship of our natural resources.

My father showed me that the rule of law and community service matter. My mother, a bookstore manager, showed me that learning never stops. And years of volunteering taught me that grace and justice go hand in hand.

I’m a computer programmer, a Kettering University grad, who has worked everywhere from small startups to large enterprises. I have experience leading teams, mentoring junior colleagues, and advising senior leadership on company initiatives. I’ll bring that same approach to the Township board: practical, collaborative, and focused on results.

Our local government should be the most trusted part of our democracy. That means transparency in every vote, room for every voice, and a relentless focus on the basics: roads, parks, budgets, and public safety. As Trustee, I will bring community voices into every decision, so we can all be proud of how Lenox Township is run. I’m ready to get to work on smart budgets, well-kept roads, protected green spaces, and honest leadership.

Let’s build a township we can all believe in.

Issues:

No NDAs

I will fight for a ban on nondisclosure agreements for Township officials. Government work should be public work. I will push for stronger open meeting laws and easier access to public records. Residents should never need a lawyer or a public records request to see how their tax dollars are spent.

No Data Centers

I will ensure any proposed data center will not bulldoze our community. No deals that destroy our environment.

Agriculture

Our farms are the heart of our local identity. I will work with farmers to keep Lenox Township's agriculture thriving for generations.

Housing

I will fight for quality, affordable housing so everyone who wants to live here can afford to stay here.

Community

I will strengthen local services from senior programs to parks, support seniors aging in place, and create safe, enriching activities for our kids. Strong communities honor elders and invest in young people.

Roads & Infrastructure

Our roads, drains and bridges should serve residents first, not just development interests.. I will fight for regular maintenance and smart investments that keep our township safe and connected.

Public Safety

Fire, EMS and police protection must be reliable and community led. I will work to ensure our first responders have the resources they need without cutting other essential services.

Tax Fairness

I oppose giveaways to big corporations at the expense of working families. I will fight for a tax policy where everyone pays their fair share and no one gets a secret deal.

Clean Water

Protecting our lakes, aquifers and drinking water is not negotiable. I will oppose any project that threatens our water quality, including large data centers or other industrial projects.

Values

Freedom

True freedom means being free from want, exploitation and fear. Not just the freedom of a few to profit, but the freedom of all to live with dignity, security and meaningful choices.

Justice

Justice is not just fair courts. It is fair wages, fair treatment and fair access to resources. We fight for a community where no one is left behind because of their income or background.

Equality

Not everyone starts from the same place. Equality means actively removing barriers so every person has what they need to thrive, whether that is housing, healthcare or a voice at the table.

Trust

Trust is earned through transparency and accountability. Our local government should be so open and responsive that neighbors never have to wonder who is really calling the shots.

Transparency

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Every vote, every contract and every decision should be visible to the public. No secret deals, no NDAs, no hidden agendas.

Harmony

Harmony means balancing individual needs with the common good. It is how rural communities have survived for generations: neighbors helping neighbors, land being stewarded, and conflict resolved through mutual respect.

Democracy

Real democracy does not end at the ballot box. It means community voices shape every decision, from budgets to land use. One person, one vote, and every voice matters.

Civic Duty

Serving our township is not a career. It is a calling. Civic duty means showing up, doing the hard work, and remembering that we are here for our neighbors, not for ourselves.

Privacy and Property Rights

We respect your home, your land and your privacy. But we also believe that property comes with a duty to the community that surrounds it.
